Rainbow Falls / IMG_0958
The Rainbow falls are located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I took this photo in January of 2018, its a 2.6 mile hike along the Rainbow falls trail to get to the actual falls and is considered moderate in difficulty. However because of the rocky terrain and snow and ice in sections of the trail, I would rate it as difficult during the winter months. It takes about 3-5 hours to hike to the waterfall and back, although I was out hiking for about 6 hours this day because I had to keep stopping to take photos. Its a beautiful area with plenty of photo opportunities for photographers. Just make sure you bring a tripod if you want to photograph the many waterfalls along the trail so you can use a longer shutter speed to blur the water. The water and ice are blue under the falls because water molecules selectively absorb the red part of the visible spectrum. In effect, ice appears blue because it is blue.
